When we learned that our very own Sr. Customer Support Rep Nicki McMurry was participating in the Great Strides walk this year, we all instantly knew we wanted to support her. Not only did the company donate to her walk fund raising efforts, but those of us close by decided to volunteer at the event itself. A group of 6, including VP of Operations Kim Tollefsen, her husband Nate, People Team Coordinator Carla Aznaran, Customer Support Manager Mark Cuen, and Customer Support Reps Jordan Bently and Sarah Miller volunteered to run the walk rest stop – and what a great day it was!
We started off the early morning by setting up with walk rest stop with snacks and water. Once the walk started, we not only passed out refreshments but cheered and encouraged the walkers on. It was truly inspirational to see so many walkers; family and friends of those impacted by Cystic Fibrosis out to support their loved ones. We were excited to cheer them on and motivate them to keep walking to the end.
When Nicki and her family showed up at the table we were especially happy to see her and cheer her on! We wrapped up the morning by cheering on walkers at the finish line.
Volunteering for the Great Strides walk was a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning. Our team was excited to not only support such a great organization but to also support one of our own.
The Organization
Great Strides
Great Strides holds walks across the nation to raise vital funds for research to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Each year more than 400 walks are held across the nation to raise funds and awareness.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe. There are over 30000 people in the US living with CF, 25% of which are children, with about 1000 new cases a year. Great Strides is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest fundraising even working to support the foundation's mission to find a cure. Thanks to the foundation's efforts, the life expectancy of those with CF has doubled in the last 30 years. Through Great Strides events each year more than 400 walks, with more than 125000 participants, are held across the nation to raise funds and awareness.
