I reported at 9am to the commercial kitchen located at the back of a strip-mall in central San Diego. I wasn't exactly sure what was going to transpire that day but I quickly learned that preparing food for 100 people hardly resembles one of my dinner parties. Chef Julie paced around the kitchen cataloging random ingredients in her head, trying to come up with a master meal plan in the next few minutes so we could get to cooking. After a few laps around the kitchen, Julie began barking out commands to the twenty-or-so volunteers that had shown up that morning.

Fast forward three and half hours later and we were loading up everyone's vehicles with soup, salads and entrees. We arrived at a local park where the homeless had gathered in anticipation of our arrival. All-in-all, we served over 100 hot meals that day. If anyone is looking for a volunteer opportunity I highly recommend this organization.
