I was ever so fortunate to be able to bring my daughter, Brooke, along for this volunteer day. She packed a shoebox for a little girl her age and brought it with her to send off. We spent the day greeting people who were dropping off shoeboxes, and then packing them into cartons to be loaded on the truck. Brooke was our “label taper” and “rubber bander”. She made sure each box had a label indicating what gender and age group the gift was for. She then secured the contents of the box by placing rubber bands on each end. She even packed some boxes into cartons.

With all that help, you’re probably wondering what was left for me to do! Well, I was usually the greeter, welcoming people, directing them to the shoebox table, and praying with and for them and the child who is to receive their gift. I helped keep track of how many boxes were dropped off, packed, and whether they were coming from an organization, like another church, or an individual.
