Our day started at 9 am. My son Andrew & I sorted through large piles of boxed & canned food. We separated them by category: fruits, vegetables, canned meats, nut jars of butter & ready to eat products.

Once that was done, we got to start making orders for families. These included a lot of the items that we already sorted through but also fresh produce and baked goods that are sent to the facility daily. Depending on the family size we were making 3-7 bags of food per household. These orders were made for a local church that was coming to pick them up later that afternoon. Andrew got to assist the families out to their car and load up the bags for them. One family really touched my heart though. She was a single mother of 2 that was passing through town trying to get to Southern California to relocate for a job. She basically had all their belongings in their little car & she was taking a chance to give her children a better life. They had been homeless for a couple months, but a family member was able to get her a job & a temporary place to stay 'til she got on her feet. It was so amazing to meet her & hear her story.
