Calvary Chapel Chico is the collection hub for Operation Christmas Child in my area. I volunteered for the first day of collections week and helped to collect and process shoe boxes filled with gifts and toys for needy children around the world. People from all surrounding areas come to CC Chico to bring packed shoe boxes from their families, churches, and other organizations. One group brought in over 300 shoe boxes from their church in Concow!
I helped by bringing in the boxes from the delivery cars/trucks/vans and praying with the delivery person. We prayed that each child that receives a box will be blessed and know the love of Jesus. I then helped pack the boxes for shipment to the distribution center, where millions of shoe boxes will be sent out all over the world.
This was a great experience and I was moved to see the huge outpouring from my community. I was blessed to be able to help out and I plan on going back to help on Saturday too!
The Organization
Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas child
Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Our mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.
